Who Can Participate?

District 93 youth entering 6th grade in the fall through 12th grade.

What Does My Child Need for Practice?

  • Fully functioning mountain bike with disc brakes and 26-29 inch tires (smaller bikes allowed if needed). 
  • Bike helmet (no full-face helmets)
  • Water bottle or hydration pack
  • Spare inner tube and tire levers
  • Weather-appropriate attire
  • Sunglasses
  • Handlebar end plugs
  • No single-speed bikes, kickstands, drop bars, slick tires, loose wires/cables/straps, or bike locks

Loaner bikes are available based on financial need.

Where Do I Register?

  • Deadline: April 30th, 2025

    5. Sign property waivers

Does my child need a Physical? 

  • Idaho Sports PhysicalsAll NEW student athletes need a physical regardless of what year they are going into. All incoming freshman and juniors need a physical. 
  • Interim History Forms: If your SA is NOT Required to get a physical, provide the Interim History Form. 

How Do I Know If My Child is “Practice Ready”? 

  • Practice ready means you have completed the registration in Pit Zone, paid your NICA and League fee, and signed electronic waivers. 
  • You will see under your “Rider Information” on the left hand side a note: Practice Ready: YES
 
When Do We Practice?
 
  • First Practice: April 30th, 6:30-8:30 PM at Thunder Ridge High School parking lot. Bring a parent for check-in.
  • Pre-season: April 30th – June (8 practices, Wednesdays 6:30-8:30 PM)
  • Regular Season: July – early October (Mondays & Wednesdays 6:30-8:30 PM)
  • Race Series (optional): August – early October 5 races. Each race has a Friday pre-ride, team building activities and free camping. Races are on Saturday.

Does My Child Have to Race?  

  • No, but we highly recommend that you register for least one of the five races in Pit Zone (you’ve got this!) or join the fun with a Party Lap (no registration necessary). 
 
How Much Does It Cost?
 
  • NICA/IICL Membership Fee: $230 (required)
  • Team Fee: $75 (required)
  • Team Kit: ~$140 (required for races, reusable)
  • Race Fees: $150/$125 (HS/MS) for 5 races or $50 each (optional)

How Does the Team Communicate?

  • GroupMe app: Used for all team communications, practice dates, cancellations, race schedules, etc.
  • Join GroupMe: Email [email protected] with your name and phone number to be added.

What do I need to start Coaching?  / Volunteering

  • We are a volunteer-based team and we cannot exist without you! NICA requires a 6:1 or 8:2 student-to-coach ratio.
  • Level 1 Coaching License: Allows you to ride with the team at practices and races.
  • Cost:  Pit Zone coach registration $25 (refundable upon completion of coaching level), 
  • Background check: $38 for the first year, $11 for years 2-6. 
  • Online Leadership Training: Free
  • Concussion Training: Free

Benefits of Coaching: Ride, increase MTB skills, leadership, and receive discounts from sponsors like Trek, Camelback, Clif, GU, Shimano, and more.
